Invitation to Sunnyside Rural Trust

Living Magazines Sunnyside Wildlife Drop In

Climate Action Berkhamsted is organising a series of events between 18-26 September to highlight ‘the importance of COP26 which the UK is hosting in November this year, and how this links directly to what we do in Berkhamsted’.

They champion sustainability and work to increase biodiversity in the local environment so Sunnyside are involved in and are holding several events that week.

Sunnyside will be in the Berkhamsted Civic Centre, Saturday 18 September 10am-4pm with their unique produce market stall and a selection of perennial plants, grown by adults with learning disabilities for the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival in July. They will also be selling a pack of specially grown, meadow mix plug plants. These can be planted out in a bed or lawn and help improve biodiversity where you live and attract butterflies, bees, and other insects.

‘Wildlife Trail’ Drop In

In conjunction with Climate Action Berkhamsted you can come and enjoy a unique walk around Sunnyside Northchurch. There will be lots going on: spot the wildlife, look at moth traps, sow some seeds, learn about pond dipping, see the animals, enjoy refreshments at the café/farmshop, see the apple press in action and watch woodworking demos with The Repair Shed.

Saturday 18 September 10am-2pm, Sunnyside Northchurch. Upper Allotments, New Road, Northchurch. HP4 1NJ. Children must bring responsible adults. £3.00 per wildlife trail map. Pay on the day.

Note: this is an agricultural site and parts have uneven ground away from the main buildings. So, do wear appropriate footwear and clothing, depending on the forecast. Also, if visiting the chicken orchard, you will need to dip footwear, so will get wet.

‘Celebrate the apple’ at the Sunnyside Activity Centre

Come and harvest some apples in the orchard, sample some Sunnyside apple juice, shop at the on-site market stall with Sunnyside grown produce, apple juice, eggs, local honey and our homemade jams & chutneys, take part in apple themed colouring and crafts.

Refreshments and our own apple cake are included in the price.

Thursday 23 September, 3.30-5.30pm, Sunnyside Activity Centre, Sunnyside Allotments, Ivy House Lane, Berkhamsted. HP4 2PP. £5.00 per adult with up to 3 children FREE. Children must bring responsible adults. The numbers are limited to 30 visitors for this events so do sign up soon.
