Lidl Invites Residents to Have Say on New Berkhamsted Store

Lidl is inviting residents in Berkhamsted to have their say on fresh proposals for a new discount food store off the High Street. The discounter has been committed to bringing a store to this site for over a decade, and having reviewed several options is now able to share its latest, most viable plans which can be delivered quickly.

The new store would be a bespoke design with a mixture of brickwork and rendering to enhance its appearance and ensure it fits appropriately within the surroundings. The store would feature a sales area incorporating the discounter’s fan-favourite bakery, the much-loved Middle of Lidl, and customer toilets with baby-changing facilities. Outside, there would be ample parking for both cars and bicycles, including two electric vehicle chargers, whilst solar panels will help power the store.

Lidl has owned this site adjacent to Turner Court for a number of years and previously obtained planning permission in 2014 for a store with residential dwellings above. Lidl has carefully considered several options to deliver the consented scheme over the years but despite significant efforts has concluded this is not economically viable.

Residents are invited to view the new proposals during a drop-in information event on Tuesday 3 June (3-7pm) at Berkhamsted Civic Centre, 161 High Street, Berkhamsted, HP4 3HB. For those that can’t make the event, Lidl’s latest plans can be viewed and a feedback form completed on their website: berkhamsted.newsite.lidl.co.uk.

Kate Bleloch, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, said: ‘We’re excited to present our latest proposals for a specially designed Lidl store to deliver our award-winning, affordable products to the heart of Berkhamsted.

‘Thank you to everyone for their patience while we explored all possible options to bring a supermarket to this site. We’re confident our latest plans will not only provide affordable shopping choice for locals, but also seamlessly fit into the character of the area – all within a shorter timeframe once approved. We know many are excited to see a Lidl store open in Berkhamsted, so we’re looking forward to the drop-in event and hope as many people as possible can join us.’
