Stop Press: We have just received this today!

Lidl GB has announced revised plans for a new discount food store in Tring, with members of the local community encouraged to attend a public exhibition on Wednesday 9 November to view and provide feedback on the updated proposals.

Following ongoing consultation with the local community, Lidl withdrew its original plans to better incorporate initial feedback from residents. The revised plans now feature an enhanced building design to increase the landscaping of the site, enabling more external space for new trees and bushes to be planted. The store design will also include red brick and flint on the exterior walls, in keeping with the local area.

If approved, the proposals will see a new modern Lidl store built off Icknield Way in Tring, delivering more shopping choice for residents of the town and access to Lidl’s high quality and affordable produce, at a time when household budgets are under increasing pressure. A new store would also create around 40 new full and part-time jobs for local people, with Lidl paying one of the highest hourly starting wages in the industry.

Alongside this, the modern supermarket would feature Lidl’s much-loved in-store bakery and customer toilets with baby changing facilities. The store will also provide 102 parking spaces, including disabled, parent and child spaces, as well as rapid electric vehicle charging points. Plans for the supermarket also include solar panels on the roof to help capture energy for the store.

Before the updated plans are submitted to Dacorum Borough Council, Lidl is inviting residents to comment and discuss the revised proposals. A public exhibition of the revised plans will be held in the Victoria Room at the Victoria Hall (Akeman Street, Tring, HP23 6AA) on Wednesday 9 November 2022, between 3pm and 7.30pm. A dedicated consultation website has also been launched at tring.newstore.lidl.co.uk, ensuring those who cannot attend the event can still view and have their say on the plans.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Jason Buckley, said: ‘We’re really excited to reveal our updated planning proposals for a new Lidl store in Tring. We’ve listened to what local people had to say about the original plans and have taken those comments on board to present something that we are confident the local community will support.

‘The new store, which represents a multimillion-pound investment in Tring, will provide a convenient place for people living nearby to access affordable food and will create around 40 new employment opportunities for local people.

‘We hope as many people as possible are able to attend our public exhibition of the revised plans and have their say. Members of the project team will be on hand to answer any questions, so please do come along and tell us what you think.’
