Local Boy Becomes Youngest New Recruit of British Legion Volunteers

Living Magazines Oliver Kudish Youngest Royal British Legion Volunteer

Oliver Kudish, aged 8, has been accepted as the youngest newest recruit of The Royal British Legion team of volunteers in Berkhamsted. This means that, with adult supervision, he will be selling poppies and other items during the Poppy Appeal fortnight.

Oliver will be doing this door to door in Berkhamsted, but will also be helping to man the RBL market stall in the High Street, on Saturday 6 November. He will also be selling the poppies at Berkhamsted school and St Peter’s church following the Sunday morning Eucharist services, throughout the Poppy Fortnight.

Oliver was very keen to think outside the box and find a poppy alternative to attract the younger generation and be an environmentally friendly (plastic free) option. The RBL were most supportive of Oliver’s enthusiastic ideas and approach to the challenge.

He has since teamed up with Mario’s Ice-Cream shop on Berkhamsted High Street (soon to be renamed The Clocktower), and they have created an Armistice Ice-Cream. It will be on sale from now until 14 November. Mario’s were thrilled with Oliver’s proposal and design idea and will be providing the necessary toppings, so it is a true joint venture.

The ice-creams will sell for £3.50 and 55p of each sale will go to The Poppy Appeal.

Oliver has created a poster and has been raising awareness around town with this. He has been putting it up in local business windows and on community notice boards. Oliver is really keen to make a difference, and would really appreciate any support you can give him.
