Lockers Park School is ‘Simply Having a Wonderful (Virtual) Christmastime’

Living Magazines Lockers Park Year 3 Christingle

While COVID-19 has scuppered all kinds of plans this year, Lockers Park School pupils in Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, have been enjoying getting into the festive spirit, adapting their Christmas traditions to suit current times.

Pupils are usually performing a series of merry events in front of packed crowds including the Pre-Prep Nativity, the Junior Play and the Christmas Carol Service in the school’s beautiful chapel. This year, staff were determined to pull out all the stops to ensure these magical performances continued, bringing everything together virtually to protect the health and wellbeing of the school community.

The adapted highlights feature a Virtual Carol Service that includes a poignant rendition of Once in Royal David’s City given by Year 7 and 8 pupils, (view the spinetingling introductory solo sung by Year 8 pupil Sam Eynon here), readings performed by pupils, some hearty Christmas carol singing from the rest of the school and staff plus a guest appearance from the Reverend Michael Macey of St John’s Church in Boxmoor. Pupils have also enjoyed Christingle Services in their bubbles and a Pre-Prep Nativity set across a series of locations in the school, all of which have been filmed and sent out for parents to enjoy from the comfort of their own homes as well as for pupils to enjoy in their bubbles on the big screen in the school hall.

Lockers Park’s Headmaster, Chris Wilson comments: ‘With COVID-19 changing our usual full-to-the-brim events schedule this year, including performing at Berkhamsted’s wonderful Festival of Light, we simply couldn’t let pupils miss out on the many celebrations that ordinarily take place. Christmas is all about creating magical memories for children (and us grown-ups) and we believe we’ve done this in a safe, COVID-friendly way for all to enjoy.’

Lockers Park is a day and boarding school for boys aged 4 to 13. Situated in Boxmoor on the outskirts of Hemel Hempstead, the school holds an excellent academic reputation, priding itself on preparing pupils for the country’s leading senior schools. Visit for further information.
