Lockers Park Preparatory School, Hemel Hempstead, was delighted to raise over £9,000 for local charities Signpost and The Collett School. The school held a sponsored five-mile walk around Hemel Hempstead, which took place earlier this year with over 300 people in attendance including staff, pupils and parents.

Headmaster Christopher Wilson says: ‘Every year we hold a whole school sponsored walk. It is an event that everyone looks forward to and which raises much-needed money for local organisations. It has been the perfect way to inspire good citizenship and teach pupils a sense of responsibility about the community they live in. We are pleased to have exceeded our initial target and hope that the money raised with help make a difference to both charities. We were also delighted to be, once again, joined on the walk by our friends from The Collett School.’

Hertfordshire-based Signpost provides counselling, coaching and other support to help young people aged 11-25 in South West Hertfordshire overcome problems in their lives. The Collett School SEN is a neighbouring school that makes a positive impact on young children with learning difficulties and cognitive disabilities, helping them learn, grow, achieve and thrive.

Denise Fenn, Interim CEO at Signpost, who attended the walk says: ‘Signpost has helped nearly 500 young people during the last year who are facing difficulties ranging from anxiety, depression and family breakdowns to abuse, self-harm and suicidal thoughts and demand for our services is unfortunately increasing. Thank you to Lockers Park for thinking of us: the money raised will go directly to help Hertfordshire’s young people.’

25 pupils joined from The Collett School and Headteacher Stephen Hoult-Allen observes: ‘The Collett School is striving to become a flagship for special education, and our mission is to support the children to grow in confidence, giving them as much independence as possible to enable them to be part of society and contribute to the community. We rely heavily on donations from a range of different sources including amazing fundraising events such as this. Thank you to our fantastic supporters at Lockers Park again this year!’
