Medieval Knights Chiltern Open Air Museum

Step back in time and experience the thrill of the Middle Ages as Chiltern Open Air Museum hosts Clash of Steel: Medieval Knights and the Legend of St George on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April.

Visitors can witness the excitement of full-contact knight battles in the arena, as skilled reenactors bring history to life with dramatic combat displays. The weekend offers a packed programme of immersive activities for all ages, including archery sessions, squire training, and the chance to learn traditional 14th-century courtly dances.

Guests will also be able to meet a magnificent warhorse and watch horseback weaponry demonstrations, discover how knights armed themselves for battle, and learn about the skills and discipline that defined medieval knighthood. Alongside the special event, visitors can explore the museum’s collection of historic buildings and beautiful grounds.

Event highlights include:

  • 11am: Archery display followed by ‘have a go’ archery
  • 12pm: Arming the Knight
  • 1pm: Squire training
  • 1.35pm: The warhorse & St George
  • 2.15pm: Courtly dancing
  • 3pm: Knights armed combat display followed by show and tell
