Music and maths go hand in hand
The Fibonacci Quartet, named after the Italian mathematician, opens the Berkhamsted Music professional classical chamber concert series on Saturday 10 October at Berkhamsted Civic Centre.
The quartet, managed by the charity Young Classical Artists Trust, is now one of Europe’s leading young string quartets. They are recording all the Janáček quartets for Supraphon, so this programme includes Quartet No 2 ‘Intimate Letters’, inspired by Janáček’s long friendship with Kamila Stösslová. The other pieces were also inspired by friendships. Mozart’s Quartet K575 in D Major was written for a talented cellist, the King of Prussia, and Tchaikovsky’s Quartet No 3 in E Flat Minor was written in memory of his friend Ferdinand Laub.
Subsequent concerts in the series feature pianist Amiri Harewood, early music from the Bellot Ensemble, the London Bridge Piano Trio, and finally the Carducci Quartet.
