New Council Homes for Dacorum

Dacorum Borough Council is bidding for £10M of additional funding to help deliver 231 new council homes for the Borough.

If successful the bid, which comes in the shape of additional borrowing, will be used to add 106 new houses and flats to the Council’s overall programme up to 2022/23. Subject to government approval, the additional borrowing will allow the Council to deliver much needed council homes.

To date the Council has delivered 132 new homes, with 208 under construction and due for completion within the next two years. The new programme will take the overall total up to 571 council homes, all of which are at rents that are truly affordable.

The new homes will be delivered in towns and villages across the Borough, with the majority in Hemel Hempstead.

Portfolio Holder for Housing Councillor Margaret Griffiths said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to help meet the huge need for new affordable homes in the Borough. We hope the government recognise that the Council has an excellent track record of delivering new homes and should be given this freedom to accelerate and increase our efforts to help local people.’

The result of the bid will be known later in the autumn.
