New mobile CCTV camera to tackle fly-tipping hotspots
Dacorum Borough Council is introducing a new mobile CCTV camera to help deter fly-tipping at hotspot locations across the borough, as part of its ongoing commitment to tackling the issue.
Funded through the Stronger Futures Programme, the wireless CCTV trailer can be moved between hotspot locations, helping the Council monitor problem areas, gather evidence and provide a visible deterrent against further incidents of fly-tipping.
Councillor Robin Bromham, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Operations at Dacorum Borough Council, said: ‘Fly-tipping remains one of the most visible environmental issues affecting our local communities, harming wildlife and costing taxpayers thousands of pounds each year in clean-up costs.
‘Having good evidence is vital for successful prosecutions, and the ability to relocate the camera to problem areas will help us gather that evidence while also acting as a strong deterrent to those who think they can break the law and get away with it. We are sending a clear message that fly-tipping will not be tolerated in Dacorum.’
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting fly-tipping to the council, as reports help identify problem areas and inform decisions about where the mobile CCTV could be deployed.
