New Outdoor Gym Uses Recycled Aerosol Cans

Right Guard is helping Dacorum’s residents ‘start their day right’ with the donation of a fresh outdoor community gym in Gadebridge Park.

The gym is the second of its kind in the UK following the huge success of the first ever community gym made of recycled aerosols which was donated to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park last year.

Henkel, the company which produces Right Guard, has their head office in Hemel Hempstead which is why Dacorum has been lucky enough to be chosen to benefit from this generous donation.

Over 2,500 deodorant cans have been used to construct the gym, which consists of a large exercise rig, hand bike, cross trainer and exercise bikes.

Users of all abilities can make the most of the gym during the day or night thanks to equipment fitted with electricity generating capabilities. Fixtures such as the spinning bike or cross trainer can light up the central rig, meaning that exercise enthusiasts can compete against one another to produce the most power and illuminate their surroundings.

The gym even has mobile phone ports to recharge batteries so that motivational playlists can be used to keep blood and pace pumping. Need an extra ten percent of battery power? Give an extra ten percent of people power.

The project is part of a sustainability initiative between Right Guard, TerraCycle and The Great Outdoor Gym Company. TerraCycle and Right Guard helped to collect the old aerosol cans whilst the Great Outdoor Gym Company then repurposed the aluminium to create the premium gym equipment.

Chris Baker, General Manager of TerraCycle Europe added: ‘The opening of this gym is the kind of initiative which gets the public excited about recycling and sustainability. The campaign has boosted awareness of recycling used antiperspirant and deodorant aerosols which are used pre- and post-exercise and could otherwise have ended up in landfill or being incinerated.’

The gym at Gadebridge Park is now open for the public to use and enjoy.
