Nica and The Jazz Divas

Living Magazines Nica Rothschild

Tickets are now on sale for Tring Local History Society’s third concert celebrating Nica Rothschild’s significant involvement with the Jazz world of the mid-20th Century.

In both earlier concerts, the first one telling the story of Nica in New York, and the second, following her book on ‘Three Wishes’, all the musicians were men. So the Society decided that the final concert should be devoted to the women of jazz connected directly or indirectly with Nica.

When one thinks of female jazz artists of the 40s, 50s and 60s, singers and pianists come to mind. But there was also a trumpeter who played with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, and a trombonist, Melba Liston. Amongst Nica’s friends was the British born Marian McPartland and Mary Lou Williams, both of whom were pianists.

Once again the musicians are the Shoe Horns group, playing with their enormous enthusiasm and skill. The concert takes place on Saturday 24 September at 7.30pm at Hastoe Village Hall (HP23 6LU). The last concert was sold out, so book now to enjoy some wonderful music!
