Nonna’s Supper Club opens door to festive guests and raises charity funds
Around 60 people attended a special Christmas Day open morning at Tring’s Nonna’s Supper Club.
The Italian delicatessen and café run by grandmother and granddaughter Romana and Georgina, turned its space into a warm, welcoming community gathering for anyone in Tring who was spending Christmas alone or away from their family.
The open house offered free coffee, tea and cake to all who came through the door, at no charge. Guests were invited to make a donation to Age UK, if they were able.
One regular arrived with their large family, and, in the true spirit of the occasion, welcomed others to join them. More guests invited others to join them at their tables, ensuring everyone was made to feel welcome.
Amid their work, the Nonna’s team took time to sit and talk with those who were alone, listening to their stories. A few attendees had been recently widowed; the day was understandably emotional for them, and they shared how much it meant to have a place to come on Christmas Day, surrounded by others who understood.
They plan to do it all again this year. As Georgina said: ‘No one in Tring should feel they have to spend Christmas by themselves.’
The event also raised £400 for Age UK.
