Online Hub for Health and Care Careers

It’s now easier than ever to find out about careers in health or social care in the area, thanks to a partnership which brings information and resources under one roof.

The Hertfordshire and West Essex Health and Care Academy has been created to develop the local health and care workforce by attracting new talent and supporting existing staff in their careers.

The Academy’s user-friendly website is packed with useful resources – from information about varied career opportunities, apprenticeships and work experience, to job vacancies, wellbeing support and advice on developing skills.

As well as digital resources and campaigns, the Academy works with schools, colleges and universities to help students explore careers in health or care.

Ogechi Emeadi, director of people, organisational development and communications at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust and spokesperson for the Academy said: ‘There are over 350 different careers in health and care and a wide range of organisations delivering services across the local area, so there is a lot to think about when considering your career options. That is why we’ve brought all the information together to make it easier for people to find the information and inspiration they need.

‘We want to develop a workforce that delivers the best possible care for our community, from young people starting out and those considering a career change to the ongoing development of our existing staff. The Academy is a growing hub of information and support  for health and care careers.’

The Academy is about to launch a recruitment campaign for roles across health and care, including support roles and a new way into nursing through nursing associate apprenticeships, a new opportunity to earn while you learn that is open to candidates aged 16 and over. In a series of short and inspiring video interviews, we hear first-hand from people who are building their careers in different roles – like Helen who used to be a shoe-fitter and is now delivering babies as a midwife, and Ian who started out as a volunteer and is now a mental health nurse.
