Organ concerts return for second year

All Saints Sarah Garrett Recital Series

All Saints Church, Berkhamsted, will present the second Sarah Garrett Organ Recital Series from May to July.

Sarah (pictured) was a familiar face around Berkhamsted, in her latter years seen striding around the town on her daily constitutional walk.

She moved to Berkhamsted in 1966 and quickly became involved in music in the area. She was a superb pianist, playing everything from music at ballet classes both for tots and serious dancers, playing in a Scottish dance band, and performing in the Royal Albert Hall.

At All Saints Church she was the ‘piano lady’, playing for the Chuckles Toddler Group from 2000 until two days before she died in June 2024. She would sit at the piano and improvise, and loved seeing small faces appear by the piano to watch or dance along. Her husband Colin donated the cost of the new Viscount organ at All Saints in her memory, and it was installed in February 2025.

This summer’s organ recitals will be given by William Fox (St Albans Cathedral), Jane Watts (concert organist) and Iestyn Evans (London) on the first Sunday of the months of May, June and July at 2.30pm. The recitals are free with a donation collection, and refreshments are provided in the interval.
