Tring’s artistic spirit has been reignited with the transformative and inspiring ‘Paint the Town’ project, an initiative aimed at refreshing and revitalising Tring’s otherwise ignored and vandalised underpass. Spearheaded by local woman, Meredith Hepner Chapman, this exciting project has captured the imagination of the community and garnered attention from well beyond Hertfordshire and neighbouring counties.

Local Authority funded, this project involves the services of Hertfordshire County Council’s licensed graffiti artists – shining a light on creative and arts careers options which so often go overlooked. It is hoped that a generation of young artists will be inspired by this project on their doorstep. Following a series of frustrating rejections, this project is also a celebration of persistence and teamwork, as MurWalls and Herts County Council showed their support for something new and worthy.

Paint the Town Tring underpass muralMarc Silver, CEO and Founder of MurWalls comments: ‘I am exceptionally excited to be involved in this project, creating a beautiful mural underpass for the people of Tring. It’s been a long process getting to this stage, but it will be completely worth it once we’re finished! The mural will depict sea life and represents the Natural History Museum in Tring – with a nod to Tring being one of the furthest towns from the coast – and we couldn’t wait for it to be revealed. Some special people we would like to thank include: North Hertfordshire County Council – for all their help and support – as well as councillor, Sally Symington, and of course Meredith Hepner Chapman, who has tirelessly campaigned for this project to come to life.’

Sally Symington, County Councillor for Tring Division says: ‘It has been a privilege to work with Meredith, Hertfordshire County Council and the MurWalls artists to deliver this amazing project for Tring. Celebrating neurodiversity through art, whilst improving the public realm, builds a stronger community and benefits all residents of Tring.’
