Planned Roadworks in the East of England week commencing 10 September

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 7 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M1 Junctions 9 – 10 gantry re-cabling

Work commences here on replacing gantry electric cables, there will be carriageway closures overnight, 10pm – 6am, with clearly signed diversions.

The diversion for the junctions 9 – 10 closure is via A5183 / A505 / A5 (there may be congestion along this diversion route so alternative routes should be considered)

  • Monday 10 September junctions 9 – 10 southbound carriageway closed
  • Tuesday 11 September junctions 9 – 10 southbound carriageway closed
  • Wednesday 12 September junctions 9 – 10 southbound carriageway closed
  • Thursday 13 September junctions 9 – 10 northhbound carriageway closed
  • Friday 14 September junctions 9 – 10 northbound carriageway closed

M40 junctions 1 to 15: routine maintenance

Routine Cyclic maintenance works include of slip roads & through junctions with two lanes. Works include sweeping, drainage cleaning, litter picking, vegetation cutting, white lining, street lighting maintenance, defect repair (including street lighting defects), inspection of the assets including structures and safety fence repair.

These works will continue until late November, over subsequent nights from 8pm, with planned re-opening times 7am on weeknights and 8am on weekends.

On Monday the 10 September the Southern underbridge, carrying the M40 on A40 Denham road roundabout will be closed at Junction 1 between both sets of traffic lights.

Traffic will turn at roundabout on Denham roundabout and continue around the opposite way. Then continue onward journey.

On Tuesday 11 September there will be a closure of the northbound exit and entry slip at Junction 11 from diverge point with main carriageway to roundabout with A422/A361.

Exit slip traffic – Road users will continue to travel northbound along the M40 and leave at Junction 12 exit slip. Turn right and right again to re-join the M40 southbound and travel southbound to leave at Junction 11 exit slip.

Entry slip traffic – Road users will continue around Junction 11 roundabout to join the M40 southbound and travel south to leave the M40 at Junction 10 exit slip. Turn right at the first junction to follow the A43 south, right at the next junction and then left at the roundabout to re-join the M40 northbound. Travel northbound back to Junction 11.

On Wednesday 12 September there will be a closure of the Southbound exit and entry slip at Junction 11 from diverge point with main carriageway to roundabout with A422/A361.

Exit slip traffic – Road users will continue to travel southbound along the M40 and leave at Junction 10 exit slip. Turn right at the first junction to follow the A43 south, right at the next junction and then left at the roundabout to re-join the M40 northbound and travel northbound to leave at Junction 11 exit slip

Entry slip traffic – Road users will continue around Junction 11 roundabout to join the M40 northbound and travel north to leave the M40 at Junction 12 exit slip. Turn right and right again to re-join the M40 southbound and travel back to Junction 11.

On Thursday 13 September there will be a closure of the northbound Exit slip at Junction 1A from diverge point with main carriageway to merge point on M25 Anticlockwise & merge point on southbound exit slip.

Length of closure 2100m from M40 to M25 Anti clock plus 1300m from slip road diverge to slip road merge heading to M25 clock.

There is also a clockwise and anticlockwise closure of the northbound Entry slip in at Junction 1A from diverge point to merge point with main carriageway.

Exit slip traffic – road users will continue to travel northbound along the M40 and leave at Junction 2 exit slip. Travel right around the roundabout and re-join the M40 southbound. Travel south and leave at the Junction 1A exit to join M25 in either direction

M25 Clockwise road users will exit at the M25 on southbound exit slip, travel south along the M40, and leave at Junction 1 exit slip. Turn right and right again to re-join the M40 northbound. Travel northbound on the M40 back to Junction 1A.

M25 Anticlockwise road users will exit the M25 early, on southbound exit slip, travel south along the M40 and leave at Junction 1 exit slip. Turn right and right again to re-join the M40 northbound. Then continue northbound on the M40 back to Junction 1A.
