Planned Roadworks in the East of England week commencing 17 September

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 14 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M1 Junctions 9 – 10 gantry re-cabling

Work continues here on replacing gantry electric cables. There will be carriageway closures overnight from 10pm to 6am, with clearly signed diversions.

  • The diversion for the junctions 9 to 10 closure is the A5183, A505 and A5
  • Monday 17 September junctions 9 to 10 – M1 northbound closed
  • Tuesday 18 September junctions 9 to 10 – M1 northbound closed

During this work some gantries within these junctions may be decommissioned.

M1 junctions 6a to 7: gantry re-cabling

Work commences here on replacing gantry electric cables. There will be carriageway closures overnight from 10pm to 6am, with clearly signed diversions.

The diversion for the junctions 6A to 7 closure is the A405 and A414.

  • Wednesday 19 September junctions 6A to 7 – M1 northbound carriageway closed
  • Thursday 20 September junctions 6A to 7 – M1 northbound carriageway closed
  • Friday 21 September junctions 6A to 7 – M1 northbound closed

During this work some gantries within these junctions may be decommissioned.

M40 junctions 1 to 15: routine maintenance

Routine maintenance works include of slip roads and through junctions with two lanes. Works include sweeping, drainage cleaning, litter picking, vegetation cutting, white lining, street lighting maintenance, defect repair (including street lighting defects), inspection of the assets including structures and safety fence repair.

These works will continue until late November, over subsequent nights from 8pm, with planned re-opening times 7am on weeknights and 8am on weekends.

  • On Thursday 20 September there will be a closure of the north and south bound entry and exit slip at junction 7 from diverge point with main carriageway to junction with A329.
  • Exit slip traffic – continue to travel northbound along the M40 and leave at junction 8a. Turn right at the first roundabout and straight on at the second roundabout to follow the A418 towards Aylesbury. Turn right down the A40 to return to junction 7.
  • Entry slip traffic – travel north along the A40 until the junction with the A418. Turn left onto the A418, at the first roundabout turn left to join the M40 southbound and travel back to junction 7
