RAF Parade and Flypast Come to Hemel

Residents of Dacorum will be treated to an extra special parade when RAF Halton march through Hemel Hempstead Old Town on Sunday 30 June, exercising their right to the Freedom of the Borough.

The parade, led by the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, will start at 11.45am in Gadebridge Park. It will then come to an exciting pause at St Mary’s Square where there will be a Lancaster flypast over St Mary’s Church at 12.03pm.

Following addresses by the Mayor of Dacorum, Councillor Terry Douris and RAF Halton’s Station Commander, Group Captain Katherine Wilson, the parade will continue down to the end of the Old Town High Street where it will come to a halt.

All residents are invited to attend to celebrate the borough’s proud connection to RAF Halton, which was the first regiment to receive the honour of the Freedom of the Borough of Dacorum.

Mayor of Dacorum, Cllr Terry Douris said: ‘RAF Halton has a long-running association with Dacorum. The Freedom Parade gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our support for these courageous military servicemen and women, and I hope as many people as possible manage to watch this parade which promises to be a great spectacle.’

Dacorum Borough Council is advising residents that road closures will be in place on the morning of Sunday 30 June. The High Street will be affected for the duration of the march and Queensway will briefly be closed while the parade passes. Queensway will be closed between the junctions of Marlowes, Alexandra Road and the High Street. The High Street will be closed between the junctions of Queensway to the junction of Fletcher Way and Piccotts End Road.
