Living Magazines Hobgoblin Theatre Company with Mike Penning at Galley Hill Primary School

Hemel Hempstead MP, Sir Mike Penning, joined Hobgoblins Theatre Company at Galley Hill Primary School where Dan Foley, one of their actors, was undertaking a challenge to run 5 marathons and perform 5 shows in 5 days in aid of VSO.

Dan said: ‘The aim of the challenge was to run 5 marathons from my childhood primary school in Leicestershire to my son’s primary school in West Sussex, performing our numeracy show “History of Maths” at a primary school at each stopover one the way.

‘I am raising money for Voluntary Service Overseas as they do such excellent work promoting education round the world.’

Unfortunately, Dan injured his foot after two and a half marathons, so the children of Galley Hill School came to the rescue and ran the fourth marathon for him.

Headteacher Mrs Birch said: ‘As soon as we heard about Dan’s attempt to run 5 marathon’s in 5 days, we felt we had to be involved. We regularly teach the children about perseverance and resilience and it was fantastic to share such a real life example with them.

‘The children really enjoyed the show and responded so positively to running on behalf of Dan this morning. We were really proud of them all.’

Sir Mike said: ‘The show was fantastic and I commend Hobgoblins Theatre Company for making learning so much fun. The children and staff enjoyed the show linking maths with periods of history. A great combination of theatre and education.’
