St Albans Domestic Abuse Charity Boosted by Amazon Team

A St Albans charity that supports people impacted by domestic abuse has been boosted by a £1,000 donation from the team at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Hemel Hempstead.

Since 1982, St Albans and Hertsmere Women’s Refuge (SAHWR) has offered services to meet the needs of victims of domestic abuse in St Albans and across Hertfordshire, including refuge accommodation, counselling and telephone support.

The donation, in recognition of International Women’s Day, will be put towards ensuring that SAHWR’s clients receive the support and help they need to overcome the trauma they have experienced. The pandemic has seen a huge increase in the numbers of people fleeing domestic abuse, so the donation will ensure that all the charity’s refuges are welcoming, homely environments for victims and their children.

Mark Keeney, Site Leader at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead, said: ‘SAHWR is a fantastic charity that does important work across Hertfordshire. We’re pleased to support the charity’s staff and volunteers with this donation.’

Liz Perry, Manager of SAHWR, added: ‘On behalf of everyone at SAHWR, I want to say a big thank you to Mark and the Amazon team at Hemel Hempstead for this donation. It will help our staff and volunteers to support the people who rely on our services.’

SAHWR received the donation as part Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than three and a half million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
