St Thomas More marks 25 years of its Footballathon

St Thomas More Footballathon

Berkhamsted school celebrates a quarter-century of its flagship fundraiser with an open afternoon of football, food and community spirit on Friday 12 June.

St Thomas More Catholic Primary School in Berkhamsted is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its annual Footballathon this June – bringing together local schools, families, former pupils and the wider community for an afternoon of football, fun and celebration.

What began a quarter of a century ago as a small PTA fundraiser has grown into one of Berkhamsted’s best-loved school events. Teams from across the town and surrounding areas now compete in the popular 5-a-side tournament, while families enjoy a summer fair atmosphere complete with BBQ, refreshments and stalls.

The Footballathon remains the school’s biggest PTA fundraiser of the year. Alumni regularly return to support younger teams and recall memories from the event’s history – including the much-loved Teachers vs Mums matches and evening games involving local families.

Alex Sallis, Executive Headteacher at St Thomas More, said: ‘The Footballathon is a wonderful celebration of friendship, teamwork and community spirit. Twenty-five years in, it’s a real testament to the families, staff and volunteers who have made it so special year after year. We’re proud to open our doors to everyone in Berkhamsted and beyond – all are welcome.’

The school is encouraging all local families to come along, cheer on the teams and enjoy the celebrations. All are welcome.
