Step Back in Time for Tudor Merriment at Chiltern Open Air Museum
On 15 and 16 August (10am-5pm) experience the sights, sounds, and celebrations of Tudor England as Chiltern Open Air Museum welcomes visitors to a weekend of historic music, dancing, traditional skills, and living history.
The Suffolk Free Company and Myal Pyper will bring the Tudor era to life, transporting visitors back to a time of feasts, music, dancing, and military displays. This immersive event offers a fascinating glimpse into the daily lives, customs, and characters of the 16th century.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy:
- Live Tudor music and dancing
- Swordsmanship demonstrations and combat displays
- Historic firepower demonstrations
- Living history camp tours and displays
- Traditional crafts and skills brought to life by costumed re-enactors
A highlight of the weekend will be the spectacular firepower display, where historic black powder weapons are put through their paces in a unique challenge against an unexpected target – the humble cabbage! Discover how early firearms changed warfare, with plenty of noise, smoke, and Tudor-style entertainment.
Visitors are invited to explore the bustling encampment, where costumed characters will be cooking traditional food, sharing stories, demonstrating crafts, and recreating the everyday activities of Tudor life. Guests can meet the re-enactors, ask questions, and see historic skills in action.
As well as the Tudor festivities, visitors can explore Chiltern Open Air Museum’s collection of more than 30 rescued historic buildings, enjoy the heritage farm, let off steam in the adventure playground, and relax in the café.
