Step back into Tudor times this Easter at Chiltern Open Air Museum
Families and history enthusiasts are invited to journey back to the 16th century this Easter as Tudors: Life, Falconry and Folk brings the past to life at Chiltern Open Air Museum from 3–6 April.
Visitors can watch falconry displays and get up close to magnificent birds of prey. Across the Museum’s historic buildings, skilled re-enactors will showcase everyday Tudor life, from the tools of the barber-surgeon to traditional crafts such as basket making and loom weaving. There will also be opportunities to try on Tudor armour with a man-at-arms, meet the ‘cunning man’ versed in age-old skills, and discover who has fallen foul of the law in the stocks.
A range of hands-on, family-friendly activities will be on offer, including quill writing, lavender bag making and traditional Tudor games.
On Good Friday and Easter Saturday, visitors can delve into Tudor navigation and seafaring, exploring how the period helped shape England’s rise as a global trading nation.
Meanwhile, on Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, the Museum’s barn will be transformed into The White Horse Inn, a lively Tudor tavern experience created by the History Re-enactment Workshop.
