Tai Chi Triumphs: Berkhamsted’s Gold Medallist Inspires Locals
Berkhamsted’s own Yoko Yaghmaie is making waves in the world of Tai Chi. This exceptional teacher, who holds classes at Berkhamsted Town Hall, has an impressive collection of accolades and a story that inspires.
In August, Yoko represented Team GB at the prestigious World Taijiquan Championships in Singapore, earning a 7th-place ranking on the global stage. Just a few months later, in November, she dominated the British National Tai Chi Championships, taking home three gold medals and one silver.
Over her remarkable career, Yoko has amassed 42 medals in national and international competitions, cementing her status as a Tai Chi champion. Born in Tokyo, Yoko initially came to the UK to study Fine Arts at Chelsea College of Art. Her journey into Tai Chi began in 1999 as a way to find mindfulness amidst the busy life of a young mother. What started as a stress-relief practice quickly grew into a lifelong passion, culminating in years of rigorous training and teaching.
With guidance from renowned instructors like Master Simon Watson and a deep commitment to her craft, Yoko has achieved numerous successes. Her connection to Berkhamsted has been pivotal; the Town Hall provided her with the Great Hall for training sessions in the lead-up to her championships, a gesture of local support that she deeply values.
Beyond her medals, Yoko’s dedication to promoting Tai Chi and Qigong is evident. In October, she hosted a successful seminar with world-renowned Qigong master Professor Hu Xiaofei, further enriching the local community’s understanding of these ancient arts.
Yoko’s classes, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Berkhamsted Town Hall, offer residents the chance to learn from a true master. Whether you’re seeking mindfulness, fitness, or inspiration, her sessions promise to be transformative.
