A new opportunity for mothers in Berkhamsted to connect and unwind is on the horizon, as The Mum Club prepares to launch events in the area. Known for organising stylish social gatherings across the country, The Mum Club focuses on creating inclusive experiences designed specifically for mums at all stages of motherhood.

Having successfully hosted monthly brunches in St Albans for the past few years, The Mum Club is now expanding its reach to Berkhamsted. The initiative is led by Nicole Hamid, a Harpenden-based mother of two, who is keen to foster a supportive and welcoming community for local mums. Nicole moved to Hertfordshire during the 2020 pandemic while pregnant with her first child. Her journey through lockdowns, house renovations, and the birth of her second child inspired her to seek meaningful connections within the local community.

‘I missed that sense of human connection during my first maternity leave and found great comfort in The Mum Club during my second,’ Nicole explained. ‘I’ve spent the past four years searching for the ‘village’ everyone talks about. I hope to make The Mum Club that village for other mothers in Berkhamsted and St Albans.’

Addressing Maternal Loneliness

Motherhood, while rewarding, can often feel isolating. A recent survey found that 89% of mothers have experienced loneliness at least once since giving birth. This sense of isolation can be particularly pronounced for those who are new to the area, have not found connections through antenatal groups, or are navigating motherhood for a second time without the same level of support.

The Mum Club aims to provide a space where mothers can form meaningful connections, regardless of whether they attend alone or with a friend. The events are open to expectant mothers, those with babies, and mums with children in nursery.

Lauren Webber and Jessica Lawes, founders of The Mum Club, highlighted the importance of these connections. ‘Good mum friends are essential, but not always easy to find. We created The Mum Club because after attending baby classes, we often left without having spoken to anyone. We wanted to create a space where mums could genuinely connect and feel supported.’

What to Expect at Events

The events provide a relaxed environment for mothers to enjoy good food, coffee, and conversation. The focus is on fostering friendships and creating an atmosphere where everyone feels included, whether they are first-time mums or more experienced parents.

Attendees can expect a warm and welcoming space where they can share experiences, laugh, and enjoy a break from the routine of daily life. The Mum Club events are designed to be accessible and enjoyable, ensuring mothers leave feeling more connected and supported.
