Tring Open Gardens

Living Magazines Rennie Grove Open garden

Looking for some gardening inspiration or just a nice Sunday afternoon outing with friends or family? Or perhaps you’d prefer a cream tea or coffee with a big slab of delicious cake, or a glass of wine?

All of the above will be available in spades as 11 gardens around the town – of all shapes, sizes and styles – open their gates on Sunday 7 June.

One ticket gets you into all of them and it’s all to raise money for a local charity, Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care.

One of those participating said: ‘I wanted to say thank you to RGPH for the support we received in caring for both my parents when we needed it. 2026 is the 10th anniversary of my Dad’s death so this is my opportunity. The garden is my happy place. I love seeing what other people have done to make their gardens special to them. Whether the focus is on colour, wildlife, formal design or naturalistic planting, it’s great to get into ordinary back yards and see what’s being achieved by ordinary people who love their gardens.’

Pauline Langford who is organising the event has done a brilliant job in persuading a rich and varied range of gardens in Tring to open on 7 June and let you in. Visiting gardens local to you is special because you can be fairly sure that any planting ideas you go away with will work in your garden.

Champneys, The Greyhound, Aldbury and Altered Image have donated some wonderful raffle prizes. And there will be a plant stall and a homemade baked goods stall in Grove Gardens for those ‘takeaways’.

A couple of the gardens will have local singing groups performing for visitors. So put the date on your calendar and go along. It promises to be a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, whatever the weather. The gardeners are all working very hard to make their gardens lovely – all they need now is plenty of visitors to make the event a success!
