Local preserves producers Twee based in Gt Gaddesden, near Berkhamsted have found success at the Artisan Marmalade Awards, receiving two Silver Awards for their Seville Orange Marmalade with a nip of whisky and their Christmas marmalade. Their jars are now amongst the best in the world for Artisanal production.

The Christmas marmalade is particularly loved for its combination of flavours, oranges with cinnamon, ginger and a nip of whiskey, everything Christmassy in a jar! The judges were impressed with the marmalade’s appearance, colour, consistency, aroma and flavour. The accolade that has been awarded denotes a marmalade of exceptional quality. The judges must appreciate a tipple in their marmalade as Twee’s Seville Orange Marmalade with a Nip of Whisky also received a Silver award.

On top of that Twee also won a Bronze award for their Seville Orange Marmalade.

Despite the ongoing economic uncertainty and global shipping issues, the Marmalade Awards has received even more entries this year, with around 3000 jars from more than 30 countries worldwide including Taiwan, Lebanon, Australia, Czech Republic, USA and India. The Artisan jars are judged by an expert panel including head judge, Jane Maggs (founder of Wild & Fruitful), Chef Koj, Dan Lepard, Fortnum & Mason Grocery Buyer Holly Warren and Buyer for Highgrove Syrie Gwyn Palmer.

‘Our judges all commented on the exceptional quality of so many of the Artisan jars. Small businesses have been hit incredibly hard by current economic uncertainty around the world, but well-sourced, good, local produce will always be in demand, and I hope that Twee will have huge success with their marmalade both locally and further afield,’ said Beatrice Hasell-McCosh, Director of the Awards.

The Artisan Gold and Double Gold award winners have the opportunity to take part in a workshop and receive their awards at a Presentation Ceremony on Friday 19 April. Dalemain will also stock Gold and Double Gold marmalades in its World Marmalade Shop at Dalemain throughout the year with marmalades from Taiwan, Japan, around the UK and beyond, available to taste and buy.

Twee owner and artisan marmalade maker Lauran Wise (pictured) says: ‘We are so pleased to have won this award against such strong competition from all over the world. It’s a tough time for small businesses out there at the moment and this is a real boost for moral for team Twee!’

As well as online, Twee’s marmalade can also be purchased at farm shops local to Twee’s base near Berkhamsted such as Mead’s Farm Shop just outside Tring and Rumblers Farm Shop in Potten End.
