Your local guide to the November lockdown

Living Magazines National lockdown

Important information from Dacorum Borough Council about the national restrictions, your council services and where you can access help and support

From Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December, you must stay at home and may leave only for a limited set of reasons. These include:

  • For education
  • For work, if you cannot work from home
  • For exercise and recreation outdoors, with your household, support bubble or on your own with one person from another household
  • For all medical reasons, appointments and to escape injury or harm
  • To shop for food and essentials
  • And to provide care for vulnerable people, or as a volunteer

Non-essential shops, leisure and entertainment venues will be closed. Click and collect services can continue and essential shops, including supermarkets, will remain open. Pubs, bars, restaurants can only provide take-away and delivery services.

If you are shielding and have recently received a letter from the Government, complete the shielding support form to:

  • access priority supermarket deliveries
  • ask for someone to contact you about any local support that’s available
  • update your contact details

If you can’t access the form, or you’d like to discuss support options, call HertsHelp on 0300 123 4044, email info@hertshelp.net or visit the HertsHelp website.

Council Services

We are prepared locally and will prioritise the services we know mean the most to you. The Forum will remain open on a ‘by appointment’ basis only. This will enable us to continue to provide essential services to you, if needed.

Our online services remain available and we urge you to use this facility. If your enquiry cannot be answered via our website, please email customer.services@dacorum.gov.uk or call 01442 228000. Please only contact us for essential/urgent enquiries.

Bins and recycling

Kerbside collections will continue as usual. Bulky waste collections will still be available to book. Help stop the spread and protect our workers by washing your hands before putting your waste and recycling out, and disinfecting your bin handles before and after collections. If you have tested positive, you should follow our additional waste guidance.

Outdoor spaces

Parks, playgrounds and skate parks will remain open for you to use with your household, support bubble or when meeting one other person outdoors.

Cemeteries will remain open for funerals and visitors. Please ensure social distancing when visiting outdoor spaces.

Council housing

We will undertake essential works where required. This includes annual gas servicing for our housing tenants. In addition, we will continue to respond to emergency repairs; a full list of what qualifies as an emergency repair can be found in the Tenants Handbook.

Our contractors are following the government’s COVID-19 guidelines and taking the necessary precautions to keep themselves and residents safe when undertaking works.

Moving home is permitted so you can still apply for council housing and bid for properties on Moving with Dacorum.

Hertfordshire County Council

You can find out the latest information on services run by the county council, including education/schools, buses, libraries, recycling centres (tips) and adult social care on its website.

The difference between self isolating and lockdown

The national restrictions from 5 November apply to everyone but they are different from what you must do if you need to self isolate.

If you are self isolating, you should:

  • Only exercise in your home or a private garden (if you have one) – you cannot go out for a walk or to meet another person
  • Get food or medicines delivered to you – you should not go to the shops or use public transport or taxis
  • Work or do school work from home – you cannot go into work, school or public places.
