Recycle your Real Christmas Trees Responsibly in Dacorum

Living Magazines christmas-tree-recycling-day-hemel-2022

Dacorum residents are encouraged to bring their real Christmas tree to one of Dacorum Borough Council’s Christmas tree chipping points on Sunday 8 January 2023 so it can be turned into plant bedding:

  • Berkhamsted: Canal Fields car park (over the canal behind Waitrose), HP4 2AL. 8am to 3pm.
  • Hemel Hempstead: Dacorum Borough Council, Cupid Green Depot, HP2 7BA. 8am to 3pm.
  • Tring: Tring Garden Centre, HP23 5HF (drop-off only). 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Bags of Christmas tree chippings will be provided for residents to use against weeds in the garden. Any unclaimed chippings will be made into compost.

Missed the date?

Residents can sign up to the Council’s new Garden Waste Subscription Service when registrations open in January, so they can chop their tree up and put it in their green-lidded bin ready for when garden waste collections begin again in spring. Information about the Garden Waste Subscription Service can be found at www.dacorum.gov.uk/garden-waste.

Trees can also be recycled at the recycling centres on Eastman Way, Hemel Hempstead or Northbridge Road, Berkhamsted. Trees left at any other recycling sites will be treated as fly-tipping and you could be prosecuted.

Information about recycling centres can be found at www.dacorum.gov.uk/recyclingcentres

Can’t get your tree to one of the recycling sites?

Local scout groups in certain areas are offering to collect trees from Dacorum homes for a minimum donation.* Check the Council’s Christmas recycling page at www.dacorum.gov.uk/christmasrecycling for more information or contact your local scout group to see if they are offering collections.

* All scout groups must show a Dacorum Borough Council-issued permit and valid ID on the day in order to dispose of more than five Christmas trees at our sites. If a new scout group that needs to register for a free permit with the Council, email recycle@dacorum.gov.uk by Thursday 5 January 2023 at the latest. If scout groups do not provide a permit, along with valid ID, they will be turned away and will be unable to drop off your trees.
